Supermarine Spitfire Analysis
One of the last classes I had the opportunity to take in college was an aircraft design course. We studied the theory and the empirical approaches governing several aspects of aircrafts, including wing/tails geometry, lift/drag, thrust-weight ratios, and much more. This work was well encapsulated in our final project, where we conducted a complete analysis of a historic aircraft. I choose to examine the British WWII fighter, the Supermarine Spitfire. MATLAB was heavily used in the analysis side, proving useful for several convergence studies as well managing the sheer number of parameters that describe an aircraft. Furthermore, this was likely my most detailed and lengthy individual report of my college career, which was a good exercise for tuning my technical writing skills. My final report is attached on this page. It was satisfying to see that the majority of my analysis and estimations were in range of reported data for the aircraft!
